The Wee Hours

When I was in college, I used to imagine the job I would someday have. Not only would I, of course, be super brilliant at everything I did all day, but I would also be learning, growing, becoming wise to the world around me. And that day has finally come.

As some of you know, I (along with the degree that took me almost 8 years to get) work for my mom's small medical company. It doesn't sound like much, but I really am glad I do it. I get to work whenever I want, literally. I almost always wait until my kids are in bed, then I plop down at my table in front of my T.V. and get to work. Most of the work is kind of monotonous since I have been doing it on and off since the beginning of time (I was 14 years old). On the nights I work, I will usually stay up until the wee hours of the morning. I often end up very tired, very bored, and watching way too many commercials.

And as the night progresses, I find myself wondering...

2:00 a.m.
How Rosetta Stone learned to teach "Martian." According to Rosetta Stone's commercial, even NASA uses this program. Do you think southern martians have an accent?

3:00 a.m.
Why the Heatsurge commercial looks like some kind of documentary on Amish sweatshops? I happen to know that a reader of this blog owns a couple of these bad boys, and now I don't know if I should be jealous of her new heaters or angry at her for supporting inhumane work environments.

4:00 a.m.
When did clipping toenails become so difficult? I had no idea that ordinary toenail clippers were so inadequate, messy, and life threatening. But now we have the Sureclip. Faster than the speed of light. Capable of stopping a bullet with it's teeth. It's the superhero of the clipper world.

So while some people may think I am wasting my degree, rest assured. I am not. Apparently commercialized television is all I need to broaden my horizons.

You crack me up! But I wonder, how do you survive the next day after you've stayed up so late? It would take me days to recover!
