The Breakfast of Champions

Today, I had a doctor's appointment at the crack of dawn (which happens to be 8:30 for those of us who stay up posting until 1 a.m.). I was getting some blood work done, so I had been fasting. I was sitting there, minding my own business, watching the Bourne Supremacy on Vinny's IPOD touch when I saw them.

Two elderly ladies (about 70-80) came in together. They were dressed pretty nice, seemed to be "with it," had nice conversations with all of us in the waiting room...but there was something unusual about them. One was gripping a half-full bag of strawberry marshmallows and popping them in like her life depended on it. The other had a large bag of circus peanuts shoved into the front pocket of her jacket and she was chomping away, one right after the other.

Now you all know that I am a huge fan of eating everything bad for me, but for someone who had been fasting, the idea of throwing down that much sugar before the sun comes up nearly made me heave. Maybe they too were there for a blood test...a test to see how much sugar you need to ingest before your blood turns to syrup. Yuck.

Ok, this is gross to admit, but for my breakfast this morning,(or atleast the first thing I put in my mouth),I ate about 10 thin mint cookies. I drank some milk with them, so I've got to be doing better than the doctor's office grannies, right???
