Cora Grace Best

My great-grandmother was pulled over for speeding on her way to my bridal shower in 1997, she was 92 years old at the time. As she came through the door to the shower, giggling the whole way, she explained what had happened and said, "I told the officer I was hoping to get through my whole life without a ticket. Guess it worked!"

At 4:00 this morning, my great-grandmother passed away. Cora Grace Best was 102 years old. Three of her four children had already passed away, and her husband died in 1975. Yet, she was always happy, cheerful, and grateful. She was a wonderful example of how I hope to be in the later years of my life. Although we will miss her spunk, more than anything we are so happy for her. Grandma had waited so long to see her family again, and I know she had the reunion of her dreams today!

Great Grandma Best kept us all feeling young by keeping herself young. I have never seen anyone as spry as she was on her 100th birthday. She will be missed, but as Mama C said, she shared some hugs and tears today as she reunited with her family. A short story - Papa Dan took his Model A to Lamar so grandma could ride in it as the Grand Marshall of the parade. The very first car in the U.S. was in 1903. She was born in 1906. It is amazing to me to think about what she has seen in her life.

I never know what to say in situations like these. "Sorry" doesn't seem right because it sounds like she lived a long, happy life and now she gets to be with her loved ones again! But, Wow! 102...She sounds amazing!

I remember when aunt Debbie gave her a cane with a rear view mirror and horn.... :) Grandma loved it. WOW. I think that was for her 95th birthday or something. What a life.

I didn't see this till now. I'm so sorry for the family's loss. Even when such a long and happy earthly life is the one that ended, it's still a little rough to imagine life without them for a while.

P.S. Did you get her secret on how to live to 102?
