Artsy Fartsy

A few weeks ago I had a visitor in my home. They sat on my couch, drank from my cup, ate some of my cookies, and made fun of the decorations on my walls. I almost ran her over with my car.

Until the last few months, little B has had very little interest in coloring. But finally he has decided he loves it. I love it too. I love what he colors so much that one of his pictures hangs above my bedroom headboard. Two more are on the wall in the dining area, and a third is on the door to the coat closet in the front room.

Little B also loves dinosaurs and last month decided to draw a T-Rex for me. He wanted to hang it from the hook right above our front door. It replaced a styrofoam Christmas tree that little K made in art class last December. Yes, I had kept that up for 6 months.
For Mother's Day three years ago little K made me these two flowers and a butterfly that says, "I love you" on the wing. I have kept these through our moves and re-hang them on my bedroom door. In the kitchen I have some of little B's artwork from his church class, including his favorite pictures from last year. I also display all of K's "A" tests. On my sliding glass door, just above all the smudged finger prints, I have a beautiful little duck which K made in art class.
These pictures and drawings are what I am proud of. They are what I want to be surrounded by. Not only was I shocked by how rude this person was, I was amazed that they could not see what I saw in these pictures. Obviously I don't hang these things so that others will be impressed. I hang them so that little B will know I think he is amazing. I hang them so that little K will know I am proud of what she does. I hang them because each time I look at them I am reminded of what I love most in life. But as proud as I am of these works of art, there is one more I must show off.

I have been wondering how I would work these pictures into a post, and this is the best I can do. These are pictures of one of my Mother's Day presents...wrapped by Vinny. Oh Vinny. Newspaper wrapped over and over with masking tape. So perfect!!! Then he let the kids draw on it. And Voila!! It's the most beautiful wrapping job ever!

So here's a post to my wonderfully artsy children...oh, and Vinny too.

Ummmm, was it me? Am I the rudey? Ah crap now I'm paranoid!! Well, I don't remember getting a cookie, so maybe not. I LOVE that you proudly display your children's art, they are so lucky to have a mom that cares about their feelings & accomplishments over whether their art matches your decor :) Your home oozes personality & I love it! You inspire me. xoxo

That is pretty gutsy as well as rude of her to make any derogatory comments about what you choose to decorate with regardless of what it is.
You're spot on when you say that your motivation is to let your kids know how proud you are and how much you love what they do. I totally recognize this. Does this lady have any kids? If so, be glad you're not one of them!

I would have run her over, or at least out of my house! And I had no clue B was the one that colored all the pooh pictures, he is very good. I was impressed by K's difficult spelling words too. So go ahead and tell them your artwork made Aunt Jen proud too!

So fun! I can't wait for that. Have you seen the quest commercials where the lady is squeezing ketchup packets into a bottle? I think you two look a lot alike. Just saying.

You are a good mom. I need to be more like you. My kids draw me 100 pictures a day and I never know what to do with all of them. I should put them up, but instead usually tell them to put them on my nightstand...then when they're not looking and they're a few weeks/days old they get chucked. Shhhh, please don't tell them.
